 GALICIAN LANGUAGE
Galician is a Romance language, derived from the Latin. Born in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, in the region now occupied Galicia and northern Portugal. The early writings are the twelfth century. Until century XIV Galician and Portuguese were the same language, but began to separate in century XV. In medieval times, the Galician-Portuguese lyric was, along with the Provencal, the most prestigious of Western Europe, but the literary splendor was disappearing as the Middle Ages was extinguished and only began to show signs of recovery from the nineteenth century, with the revival of the language and culture of their own.
